I’ve never been to Brazil. Heck, I’ve barely been out of the country. But I’ve been published in Brazil (and in Australia – a country I have been to) so that makes me feel like a world traveler!

A few months ago I received an email from a lovely editor at Claudia Noivas Magazine, a wedding magazine out of Brazil. They saw Desiree and Rich‘s wedding on Style Me Pretty and loved it. They were doing a feature on wedding fashion for groom’s and wanted to feature a shoot showcasing Rich’s awesome bow tie and tux. I was happy to oblige and they were kind enough to send me a hard copy, which I received a couple of weeks ago.

I can’t understand a word of what’s written inside, but I’m honored to have one of my images showcased among amazingly beautiful photography by some of my favorite photographers. Check it out!

Katie + Steve = Married!

Katie and Steve were my last wedding of 2011 and they couldn’t have helped me end the year any better! Their wedding day was heartfelt and beautiful from beginning to end and I left feeling really great about what it is I do for a living. That’s how I know I just left a really great wedding.

Their day started out with the ceremony at one of the loveliest churches I’ve had the privilege of shooting in so far, St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church. The interesting wood beams and large windows that let in tons of natural light had me swooning through the entire ceremony. If I’m going to shoot in a church, I love one that has lots of windows, and that’s hard to come by. The reception was held at Malibu West Beach Club, and had a lovely wintery theme, perfect for a December wedding.

Katie’s mom really put this wedding over the top when she surprised everyone (including me!) with an appearance from the USC Trojans marching band. Katie is a die-hard Trojan and comes from a long line of Trojans, so needless to say, this got the party started. It was an amazing night for an amazing couple and I’m so happy I got to be a part of it! Congratulations, Katie and Steve!

Featured in The Knot Magazine!

Here it is, my first post of 2012! And I think we’re starting the year off nicely with a print feature – nothin’ wrong with that! This feature is actually from last month, but it’s a Spring/Summer 2012 issue, so it’s still timely.

Justine and Steve‘s awesome wedding got lots of well-deserved attention online, so I wasn’t surprised when the lovely editors over at The Knot asked if they could feature it in their winter issue. I loved shooting Justine and Steve’s wedding day and I’m so glad so many others appreciate the hard work that they put into it.

Hopefully 2012 will bring new print features my way – it’s one of my goals for the year, so I’m going to do my best to make it happen!

Tracy + Jim = Married!

When I first started shooting weddings, I set out with the goal of attracting clients who were unique and crafty and were creating a wedding day that was as unique as they were. Tracy and Jim are those clients, one hundred percent. Not only are they super fun, super cute and super in love, they are crazy creative and really talented. And their wedding was a direct reflection of all of this, which made my job of capturing their wedding day so much fun.

There are so many great handmade details and elements to show here that I couldn’t possible point them all out, but my favorite detail by far is Tracy’s purple ombre dress that she MADE HERSELF. I just loved it. Thanks so much, Tracy and Jim, for allowing for me to be a part of your amazing day. It was so fun watching you two enjoy every second!

Desiree + Richard = Married!

“I think Rich and I will both be pretty emotional throughout the day- hopefully i’ll stop sobbing long enough so that not all shots are of the ugly cry face!”

That was an email I received from Desiree the week before their wedding. It made me smile and looking through these photos reminded me of her email because Desiree had nothing to worry about – her cry face is adorable! But, yes, she was right – she and Rich were emotional, but one thing I noticed was they both seemed very present. I think it’s very hard for brides and grooms to feel present on their wedding day. Who can blame them, really – there’s so much going on: All of the attention is on you, and the day you’ve been planning for months or even years is finally happening – who can focus with all of that!? But, Desiree and Rich seemed to be soaking it all in and were clearly enjoying themselves. Together they made up a blissful and peaceful center during a very fast-paced day.

They were married at Luxe Hote l in Beverly Hills and with the help of Whitney at Wish, Wonder Dream, the day was everything they dreamed it would be. There are so many moments and photos I want to share from the day so I’ll just let the images do the talking. Also, I’m so thrilled to announce that Style Me Pretty featured this wedding yesterday, so you can see even more details and moments from the day over there! Go take a gander, won’t you?

Veronica + Jessie = Married

I’ve been looking forward to Veronica and Jessie’s wedding day for what feels like years now. It was really more like a year and a half, but seeing as how I now only book a year in advance, those extra six months felt like a lifetime! Adding that to the fact that I was able to follow along with the planning process as Vee blogged along the way on the Wedding Bee boards and I was very excitedly waiting for their big day! These two worked very hard to create a wedding that very much reflected them as a couple and as individuals. They DIY’d the majority of the details and they did such an incredible job. I’m seriously in love with every detail.

Vee and Jessie, you two are amazing! I’m so glad I was part of your wedding day. Thanks for making me feel so welcome. And thanks to Amanda of In The Now for coordinating the day and helping Vee and Jessie pull all of their ideas together into one cohesive, beautiful event. It’s always such a thrill to see my work featured on beautiful wedding blogs! Not only does it feel good to have my work appreciated, but it’s also a nod to my couple’s hard work in putting together such beautiful weddings!

This past week Jennifer and Joe’s Maravilla Gardens wedding was featured on Every Last Detail in a two-part post! Be sure to check out Part 1 and Part 2.

And then earlier this week Tracy and Jim’s adorable Pasadena engagement session was featured on Oh Lovely Day! Their wedding is coming up next month and I can’t wait!

2011 has been very good to me. I started the year with a goal of getting published in a print publication, and that has happened several times already! This month I was so excited to open the newest issue of BRIDES Southern California to find Ashley + Steve’s Disneyland wedding featured in the Real Weddings section! Blog readers and Facebook friends really responded to this wedding when I first posted it, so I wasn’t surprised when the Editors at BRIDES contacted me about it. I think it looks great in print, don’t you? It’s the second time my work has been featured in BRIDES and it’s still such a thrill!

Ever since I announced I would be photographing Niecy Nash‘s wedding and posted her and Jay’s engagement session, I’ve received so many wonderful words of encouragement and congratulations. When the two-hour special aired on TLC, I enjoyed reading tweets and Facebook messages of those who were watching right along with me. It was pretty weird to see myself on television but completely fun at the same time. But I think for me the most exciting part was seeing my work featured in a four-page spread in Life & Style Magazine. It was nice to be able to tell my friends and family that they could go to any newsstand in any part of the country and pick up a copy of the magazine!

I wanted to share the spread here for those who didn’t manage to pick up a copy when the issue was on newsstands. Two engagement photos were also used in previous issues. Pretty fun!

Happy Valentine’s Day and More Features!

Happy Valentine’s Day, ya’ll! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I don’t really get hung up on the commercialism of this day (Chris and I don’t even exchange gifts), but I do appreciate the fact that it gives a lot of us a reason to re-focus our energy on the people who are most important to us. Life gets in the way sometimes. We’re all busy, working towards our respective goals. I like to use Valentine’s Day as an excuse to forget about everything else and just dedicate my energy to my Valentine. I hope you’ll do the same today!

In other news, I wanted to share some fun features I’ve had the privilege of getting over the past several months! I got to see my photos in two places that were a first for me: in a print magazine and on television! First, I got a little photo in the Spring issue of Brides magazine, Southern California edition. It’s an image from Jackqueline and Jeremy’s Griffith Observatory engagement session:

Jeremy and Jackqueline also got some national attention when we found out one of their wedding photos was being used in a commercial for ChristianMingle.com, the dating website the two met on. I didn’t know the photo was being used so I almost didn’t believe Chris when he told me he was pretty sure he saw one of my photos on a commercial when he was watching TV one night. But sure enough, there they were! Here’s a screen shot from YouTube. You can watch the full commercial here (J+J appear at the 0:17 mark), and I’ve seen it several times on TV myself. Pretty cool!

Last year I had the privilege of being featured in Elizabeth Anne Designs. This was the first blog to ever feature one of my images and so it holds a special place in my heart. It was an honor to see Martha and John’s Malibu West Beach Club wedding on there. Such a thrill!

I’ve also had the pleasure of being featured on one of my fave wedding blogs, Ever Ours, not once or twice, but THREE times in the past several months! I just now realized I never blogged about any of them. Shame on me!

The three features were: Sandra and Robert’s Langham Huntington Pasadena wedding, Sharon and Nick’s cooking engagement session and Jennifer and Ken’s Berkeley wedding.

Jennifer and Ken’s wedding also got some love on The Wedding Yentas and Borrowed & Bleu! Such an honor!
