It was a regular Thursday night and I was wrapping up my work for the day when I got an email. I checked it, expecting that it would be something that I could read and then deal with the next day, but I immediately realized it wasn’t that kind of email. It was from a man in search of a photographer to shoot his best friend proposing to his girlfriend early the next morning. I called the guy back immediately and he told me of the brilliant plan his friend, Jonathan, had to propose to his girlfriend, Michelle. I couldn’t wait to photograph my first proposal!
The next morning I drove out to Jonathan and Michelle’s house and camped out in my car across the street. Michelle thought the two of them were going to drive up to Santa Barbara for the weekend in their own car, but Jonathan had other plans. He hired a limo and asked the limo driver to hold a sign suggesting that perhaps Michelle’s future last name would be the same as his. When Michelle walked out the front door for what she thought was a Santa Barbara weekend, she instead found a limo waiting at the end of the driveway and saw the sign. She was confused at first and turned around to ask Jonathan what was going on. That’s when she saw him down on one knee, holding a small box containing a gorgeous ring. That confusion turned to shock and then to glee. It was amazing to witness!
But Jonathan didn’t stop there. The limo wasn’t taking them to Santa Barbara for the weekend. It was taking them to the airport where a plan was waiting to whisk them off to Hawaii for several days. If there’s a better way to celebrate your new engagement than alone time together on a tropical island, I don’t know what it is. I was equal parts excited and jealous! I mean, my husband did an amazing job in proposing to me, but this is pretty damn good, I gotta say. Kudos, Jonathan and congrats to you both!
