The Vegas Wedding Chapel Experience

I can’t believe I’m still blogging about Las Vegas, but I guess when you stay in that town for over a week, you end up with a lot to talk about! One particularly fun thing that I did while in Vegas was hit up an honest-to-goodness wedding chapel to take some photos of complete strangers and their quickie weddings. My friend Jenny Smith and I decided we were going to do this and spent a morning calling around to all of the different chapels until we found one that would let two crazy photographers come down to witness what it is that they do all day. It wasn’t easy, but the fine folks over at Chapel of the Flowers cleared it with a couple of couples and then invited us to their ceremonies. I was peronally hoping for an Elvis impersonator as the officiant, but Chapel of the Flowers is far too classy for that.

It was interesting experience (to say the least), documenting this intimate moment amongst people we had only met five minutes prior. The chapel has its own house photographers, so we were not there as the main photographers. It was important to everyone (including us) that we stay out of the way.  This made me feel like a real fly on the wall, and so I really did have a blast.

Here are the shots from the two ceremonies we were present for. First up, Amber and JW, who flew to Vegas from Mississippi to get married:

And then, not a half hour later, Tracey and Craig showed up to renew their vows. They came all the way from the UK!

  • Michael Campbell - Heidi, How cool, I bet it was a lot of fun! I like that you did them all in black and white. -Mike
