I have three brothers who are considerably younger than I am (the oldest of the group was born when I was 12). Every year for the past few years I’ve made it a point to do some nice portraits of them so that my camera-lacking parents have some shots that aren’t school pictures. I usually use these as an easy out for Christmas and birthday gifts, but I think they appreciate them all the same. Today the middle brother, John (he’s 14), came to hang out with Chris and I. I mostly wanted to give my single mother a break for a day, but we were really looking forward to hanging out with him, too. I decided to take the opportunity to get a mini photo shoot in for mom’s Christmas gift. The kid is super photogenic, as you will see, so my job was really quite easy. He sat there and looked adorable; I just pressed the button. The only thing I gotta do now is figure out which shot my mom would like the most.
This past weekend Chris and I had the pleasure of a five-day visit from our friends Alisha, Scott and Sam. They flew in from Denver Thanksgiving morning and we were SO EXCITED to hang out with them. We did our best to show them around the city and even got to do a couple of things we hadn’t done before. We checked out the tombstones at Hollywood Forever cemetery, went to Venice Beach, saw the Takashi Murakami exhibit at the MOCA and shopped a little in Silverlake, Little Tokyo and even in good ol’ Burbank.
Sam recently turned 4 and is basically the cutest kid I’ve ever laid eyes on (besides my three brothers, of course). I’ve posted some of my favorite shots from the weekend. It should be obvious that Sam is quite the photogenic kid, as are his awesome parents. They are a really cool family and I feel quite lucky to know them.
My good friend Ken Mahru is in this excellent post-rock band called Parker Street Cinema. They recently did a West Coast tour and made a stop at Mr. T’s Bowl in Highland Park. Ken asked me to bring along my camera with the hopes of getting some good live shots of their gig. I had never been to Mr. T’s Bowl before and I’m really glad I got this chance. It’s a really interesting hole in the wall type of place. When we first walked in I thought maybe we had walked into someone’s basement-turned-music venue instead. It sort of felt like home. PSC rocked it, for sure. You should definitely check out their stuff and buy their new album, Music, In The Blood, when it comes out on December 4th.
Here are a few of my favorite shots from that night:
I had the pleasure of photographing Natali and Cory’s wedding. You may remember Natali from her bridal shower photos. The wedding took place in the backyard of Cory’s parents house. It was packed full of friends and family who were thrilled to celebrate the special occasion with the happy couple. The wedding was very laid back, yet elegant enough to really feel like a special occasion. All of the people in attendance were really happy to let loose on the dance floor — the dancing continued well into the night. Here are a few shots from the evening:
I had the pleasure of photographing Natali’s bridal shower. I was also asked to photographer her wedding. The bridal shower was held at the house of Cory’s (the groom) grandparents. Natali and Cory’s female friends and family were in attendance and it was a really special and emotional night for everyone. The ladies were all smiles and laughs, and even shed a few tears of happiness for Natali. Here are a few of my favorite shots from the party:
